  • What Grants are Available to Renters and Flat Owners with Electric Cars?

BLOG EV Charging What Grants are Available to Renters and Flat Owners with Electric Cars? Chloe Sharp 22 March 2023 at 08:38:46 According to the 2021 census, 21.7% of people in England and Wales lived in apartments . That’s 5.4 million people . Yet, rental properties have been noticeably neglected by the EV industry since popularity first started to rise. When we think of home charging , the first thing that probably comes to mind is the image of a charger secured to the side of a house with a car parked nicely besides it. But for people who are living in rented accommodation, it’s not even possible to paint the walls, let alone install an EV charge point to the outside of your building. Not to mention people living in apartment complexes who don’t even have access to an exterior wall that isn’t six stories high. The main issue seems to be having somewhere to plug in your electric car. Cars are an investment, so why would you spend money on one if you have nowhere to charge it? The Juicy Details Other incentives have been introduced by the UK Government to help tackle this issue, like the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), which has now been replaced by the EV chargepoint grant. Although phased out for homeowners, funding for apartments is still in effect . The grant offers applicants either £350 or a 75% cost reduction towards the cost of purchasing and installing the charger. You have until 31st March 2024 to apply. Do apply if you: · Own (or lease) an OZEV approved electric vehicle or have one on order. You can find a link to this list on the OZEV website. Leased vehicles, for work or for personal use, must have at least 6 months on the lease. Keep proof of your lease or pre-order at the ready, since these will need to be shown to your local EV charge point installer. · Live in a flat in the UK Homeowners who live in flats and people living in rental accommodation (flats and single-use properties). · Have access to a private, off-street parking space . Don’t apply if you: · Are going to move (or you’re planning on moving) soon. · Already have a charge point installed. Yes, even if that charger you have isn’t compatible with your new car. Or if you want to change the location of the charger. · Have already claimed this grant or other similar schemes. · Own and are living in a house. Don’t worry though, it’s not all doom and gloom. If you aren’t eligible for this grant, OZEV are offering funding for a range of different circumstances. Your landlord can also claim through the EV infrastructure grant for residential car parks, which gives them up to £30,000 of additional capital to go towards financing the installation of EV charge points. • Rolec provide smart metered hook-up solutions to Nant Newydd Caravan Park

NEWS Caravan Hook-Ups Rolec provide smart metered hook-up solutions to Nant Newydd Caravan Park 12 December 2023 at 11:08:19 Situated on the east side of the Isle of Anglesey, Nant Newydd Caravan Park opted for Rolec’s smart card metered caravan hook-up solutions to ensure their destination is equipped with a solution that best meets their requirements and the needs of their customers. To complete the project, Rolec worked closely with S J Ward Electrical to provide water and power facilities by providing sixty-one QUANTUM illuminated touring pedestals and fifteen post-mounted hook-up connection units. Like all Rolec’s metered systems, the smart card units used in this project are CE compliant and MID Class 1 approved so guarantee billing accuracy which, with today’s soaring energy prices, is reassuring for end users who can be confident they are only paying for the electricity they are consuming. Meanwhile, site owners will have peace of mind knowing that they are only supplying energy which has been paid for. Smart card meters are a cost-effective and reliable way of managing caravan/holiday park’s electric supplies. The package includes smart cards, a card reader/writer, and the Windows™ software required to access the cards and view transactions. The software is simple and easy to use and enables the essential functionality of setting the rate to be paid by holidaymakers for the electricity they will use. When selling electricity, just enter the amount of credit required, transfer it to the card and the holidaymaker can be on their way. At the meter they only need to insert the card and the credit will automatically transfer and power will be made available. After a successful design and installation, Nant Newydd Caravan Park found a requirement for a further nine of the modern and stylish QUANTUM touring pedestals which will enable them to cater for even more visitors in the future. • Your Charging Questions Answered

BLOG EV Charging Your Charging Questions Answered 12 December 2023 at 11:07:42 We’ve answered some of the EV charging questions asked by prospective electric vehicle drivers. How much does it cost to charge an EV at home? The cost of charging an electric vehicle at home is dependent on various factors; when you charge your vehicle; how you charge your vehicle (3-pin plug or charging point); size of the vehicle’s battery; tariffs/charging networks used and how much energy you need. Charging your electric vehicle at home is a cost effective alternative to charging at public locations, especially when charging is complete during the night, when energy rates are low. How long does it take to charge an EV from empty to full? This depends on both the battery size as well as the speed of the chargepoint. Most electric vehicle drivers will recharge their vehicles at home from empty to full and most will also ‘top-up’ their charge if a chargepoint is available at their workplace or at a public destination. What grant funding is available for getting a chargepoint installed at my home? The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) offers grants to support the wider use of plug-in vehicles. The EV chargepoint grant provides funding of up to 75% towards the cost of installing electric vehicle smart chargepoints at domestic properties. This grant is open to flat owners, people in rental accommodation, landlords and social housing providers. View our OZEV grant fundable smart electric vehicle chargers for the home I own a business, is there grant funding available for workplace chargepoints? Yes. The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides generous cost savings for businesses/organisations across the UK for the purchase and installation of electric vehicle chargers at their workplace premises. Workplaces are eligible for up to £14,000 grant funding (£350 per socket, a total of up to 40 chargepoint sockets permitted at your premises under OZEV WCS) towards their chosen chargepoints. View our workplace EV charging solutions Where can I charge my car if I don’t have a home electric vehicle charge installed yet? There are hundreds of locations with chargepoints available for electric vehicle drivers to use. The number of public electric vehicle chargepoints in the UK has increased by 34% in the last year - according to Zap-Map, there are now over 32,000 public EV chargers available to use (time of writing). Some public chargers offer free charging, whilst others will ask you to pay a fee - prices will vary due to pricing models implemented by the car park. Most public destinations will offer AC Fast charging (anything from 3.6kW to 22kW), however there are now hundreds of DC rapid chargers located across the UK for public use and this figure is set to increase in the near future. • Welcoming the UltraCharge 160, for future-thinking businesses

BLOG EV Charging Welcoming the UltraCharge 160, for future-thinking businesses Chloe Sharp 1 February 2023 at 15:09:37 As I’m sure you’ve heard, the UK government has set out a goal to reach a total nationwide carbon emission of net zero by 2050. By far one of the most impactful ways to achieve this is to start the transition to electric vehicles . To this point, all new vehicles sold in the UK past 2030 must be fully battery-electric. By switching to fossil fuel-free vehicles by 2030 (2050 for HGVs), the aim is to tackle the 21% of emission produced from cars, vans, and HGVs in the UK. However, to realistically achieve this, EV infrastructure needs to expand, with the Climate Change Committee (CCC) estimating that the UK alone will need 325,000 total public charge points. Our newest chargepoint, the ULTRACHARGE 160, has been designed with this in mind, giving power to future thinking businesses. The ULTRACHARGE 160 is our most economical unit to date, with a unique scalable, modular design custom-built to grow with your needs. Offering DC charging capabilities of up to 160kW and a continuous power output segment of 300-1000v - providing a charge of up to 80% in around 20 minutes. Optimising speed to provide you with a significant increase in revenue potential. Making the ULTRACHARGE 160 the optimal choice for public, fleet and highway infrastructure developments. Not only does the unit have the capacity to charge 2 vehicles simultaneously, the ULTRACHARGE 160 is also capable of supporting the charging requirements of not only standard EVs, but also expanding to include larger commercial vehicles such as HGVs and buses. Its wide output range switches automatically according to the vehicles’ requirements. All of which can be configured in relation to your site’s unique power limitations and adjusted in real time with the help of the unit’s dynamic power sharing function. Which allocates power equally to each vehicle depending on the site’s power provision as well as vehicle demand; automatically diverting 100% of its output once one vehicle reaches full charge. If there’s one thing that working in the EV industry has taught us, it’s that changes can happen quickly and unexpectedly. With this in mind, if/when your needs change, you can easily upgrade your unit by increasing the number of power modules. Purpose-designed to expand our range of power offerings from just 60kW to 160kW in 20kW increments. Giving you the power to customise your energy at a rate that suits you. You can also further customise your unit with our bespoke chargepoint branding services, tailoring it by adding your brand colours and logo to make them as much a part of your business as they are ours. As with all our units, the ULTRACHARGE 160 comes with 4G and ethernet connectivity as standard. It is also OCPP1.6 compliant, making it easy for you to manage your unit through any compatible back-office, such as our own VendElectric and other preferred back-office partners (like MONTA, Fuuse and ChargePlace Scotland). So that you can receive real-time data on usage, CO2 emissions and revenue. The integrated RFID/NPC/contactless payment terminal gives EV drivers a direct and app-less way to pay. We designed ULTRACHARGE 160 to suit fleets of all sizes, meaning it is compatible with a multitude of different operational methods; choose from simple plug & charge, RFID or app-controlled access. Allowing you to track your staff or fleet’s activity and usage. As well as over-the-air firmware and software updates to further future-proof your unit. Still curious? • What grants are available to Landlords looking to install EV chargers at their properties?

BLOG EV Charging What grants are available to Landlords looking to install EV chargers at their properties? Chloe Sharp 3 May 2023 at 13:36:11 So, you want to install EV chargers at your rental properties but want to know what funding is available to you. If you’re a landlord you get access to not one, but two grants. Lucky you! OZEV introduced both the EV chargepoint and EV infrastructure grants, both of which can be used on the same property, for the sole purpose of encouraging you to install electric vehicle chargers. As you can probably guess, you can only use these grants if you are applying for a property you aren’t living in, which includes properties that you live in for part of the year and rent out for holidays, and it must be in the UK. And it’s not just flats that can benefit from cost saving, you can also apply if you are renting a house or commercial property. Extra consideration does need to be taken for commercial buildings to make sure that the chargepoint isn’t available to the public but thankfully, this can be successfully managed by most back-office software. Parking needs to be off-street, private, clearly defined, accessible and owned by you. You can’t be flinging wires and parts around willy-nilly, if you need access to public or private land you need to prove you have permission before any work can be started. EV Chargepoint Grant As the name suggests, the EV Chargepoint Grant relates to funding for the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints. Get up to £350 per socket or 75% off the cost to buy and install. Those of you that own multiple properties can get funding for up to 200 grants each financial year for residential properties and 100 for commercial. Don’t spend it all in one place though, unless you want to I guess, since you can spread these grants over multiple installations instead of just one. EV Infrastructure Grant The EV Infrastructure Grant handles funding for the supporting hardware and, you guessed it, infrastructure for electric vehicle chargepoints to be installed. Think wiring and posts. Depending on the scope of the work you plan on carrying out, there is up to £30,000 available through this grant. Or 75% of the total costs, whichever is less. Like the EV Chargepoint Grant, there are a number of grants available each financial year (30). However, unlike the EV Chargepoint Grant, each of these grants must be used for different properties and each of those properties must contain multiple dwellings. Since this grant focuses on the wider picture, the requirements also focus on the size of the project. Work must be carried out on at least 5 parking spaces, for example, and the grant is specifically for properties with multiple houses/residences.
