What are the different types of charging connectors?

The type of connector you need to charge your electric vehicle depends on the type of vehicle you are driving, as well as the speed of charging.

All plug-in hybrid and full Electric vehicles have a Type 1 or Type 2 socket for fast charging, suitable for charging at home and workplaces. Full electric vehicle also house a CHAdeMO or CCS connection for DC rapid charging whilst on the go.

You will notice that most electric vehicle charging points have a Type 2 socket and sometimes they have a cable attached to the charging point too (tethered charging point), however most electric vehicle drivers purchase a portable EV charging cable so that they are able to recharge their vehicle at any socketed electric vehicle charging point.

All DC rapid charging stations have EV charging cables attached which are usually equipped with CHAdeMO and/or CCS connectors.
