Commercial EV Charging Solutions: Installer’s Guide
26 januari 2026 kl. 11:28:59
So, your clients want to install EV charging for their business. Great! There’s big opportunity in this space. As contractors, you’re expected to balance installation efficiency, compliance, futureproofing, and cost. This article breaks down the key considerations, highlights opportunities for growth, and shows how Rolec supports you as the go-to solutions partner.
EV chargepoint installations open the door to commercial opportunities and rising demand, serving fleets, hospitality, parking operators, developers, and local authorities – sites with long-term revenue potential. With regulations, available funding, and government net zero targets, this isn’t a short-term trend.
Flexible Range
As one of the longest-standing chargepoint manufacturers in the UK, Rolec has delivered thousands of projects worldwide, and our partner network has helped shape products that are more installer-friendly than ever before.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to EV charging. That’s why our portfolio includes solutions for every type of commercial site.
Units are divided into two groups: pedestals and wall-mounted units. Each of which has benefits for different use cases. Pedestals are ideal for shared locations, like workspaces and retail outlets. Models such as BasicCharge, Quantum, and HEX are designed to optimise available floor space by charging up to 4 vehicles simultaneously. With integrated LED amenity lighting and durable design, they stand out in busy environments.
2025 saw the launch of HEX, a major new additional to our AC lineup. A robust steel pedestal available in dual or quad outlet versions, engineered to minimise groundworks and streamline installation. The quad is particularly effective in centrally positioned parking bays, maximising accessibility and capacity where it’s needed most.
Wall-mounted chargers, like our SecuriCharge and Zura units, are the optimal choice for locations with less available floor space, such as underground car parks. Something that can also be a major consideration when installing hardware in more confined areas.
Additionally, this year we introduced four new additions to the UltraCharge range, creating a more versatile and future-proof package for commercial and public sector applications. With power outputs from 40kW up to 1.6MW, it now covers a broader spectrum of requirements. Standard specifications have been upgraded, including cable management, while retaining Rolec’s position as the UK’s most competitively priced DC offering.
Thanks to extensive stockholding, we can deliver AC units next day and stocked DC models within 3–5 days.
Installation Considerations
When a business asks you to install a commercial EV infrastructure, here’s what to prioritise:
• Site electrical capacity: Assess existing cabling, supply strength, and groundworks. If capacity is limited, advise on dynamic load management, often required in the UK.
• Socket options: Dual or quad socketed units minimise groundworks and cabling while maximising available outlets.
• Connectivity challenges: Addressing connectivity, particularly in underground or communal parking spaces, to ensure reliable operation via 4G, Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
• Charging speeds: Choosing units with varying speeds ranging from 7.4kW up to 650kW to accommodate different requirements and consider the operational efficiencies of each site, including vehicle downtime and charging session turnaround times.
• Installer-friendly hardware: Rolec units are built with contractors in mind utilising modular components, and flexible mounting options to simplify installation and maintenance.
• Contactless payment: Recent public charging regs mandate contactless payments at all new chargepoints above 8kW, and existing units above 50kW must also support debit/credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. Rolec’s strategic partnership with PAYTER ensures full compliance, providing operators with simplified payment solutions that increase utilisation, improve driver experience, and future-proof infrastructure.
• PAS 1899 accessibility standard: Essential for sites serving diverse users. Caravan parks, holiday parks, theme parks, hotels, resorts, shopping centres, sports stadiums, and more should prioritise meeting accessibility regulations. All Rolec units are fully compliant.
Destination Charging
Did you know 90% of EV drivers prefer destinations with chargepoints? Yet, of the 70,000+ potential destination sites in the UK, fewer than 1% have installed them. According to recent SMMT data, by mid-2025 there were more than 2 million plug-in vehicles on UK roads, with one in five new cars sold being electric. Public charging continues to grow, with over 80,000 charge points now installed across the UK — yet hotels, attractions, and other destinations remain under-served, despite being the places where drivers most want to charge.
This creates clear opportunity. Many EV drivers won’t book accommodation without charging, and retail, leisure, and hospitality businesses risk falling behind. For contractors, this means steady work: new builds, retrofits, network extensions, and maintenance.
Inform clients how destination charging boosts business creating longer customer dwell times, higher spend in cafés, shops, and restaurants, stronger loyalty, and new revenue streams via pay-to-charge solutions. Be ready to advise on software and payment options, with support from our dedicated team of advisors and partners every step of the way.

Funding Options
Installers, did you know? You can offer your customers fully-funded electric vehicle chargepoints, installation and management.
Initial cost is often the biggest barrier for businesses considering EV charging. That’s why Rolec works with a range of funding partners to provide fully funded, part-funded, and subscription models. These options remove upfront costs and operational concerns, making implementation of EV infrastructure more accessible to companies of all sizes.
Through strategic partnerships such as Connekt and Go Zero, backed by multimillion-pound investments, we’re accelerating the wide-scale deployment of EV charging across the UK hospitality sector, giving hotels and leisure destinations the confidence to prioritise implementing reliable charging solutions.
Contractor Support
Our commitment to supporting contractors and simplifying the EV landscape has never wavered. From faster charging technology to enhanced technical facilities and dedicated training, we continue to raise the bar.
Earlier this month we hosted a three-day training workshop, from internal refreshers for our team to installer-focused sessions, we’re committed to continuous learning and development. With deep dives, live demos, Q&As, and specialist sessions with our partners Monta, Fuuse, Clenergy EV, PAYTER, and Perific covered everything from payment solutions and software capabilities to dynamic load balancing, giving contractors practical expertise they can apply on-site.
Security, compliance, convenience, AI, energy management, and solar integration are all part of the mix, ensuring our people and contractors know our products and services inside out and continue to deliver projects with confidence.
Training Programmes
By partnering with Rolec as an Approved Installer you tap into 18 years of EV industry expertise, UK-based manufacturing, dedicated project support, and better access to technical resources. We also offer free CPD-accredited training courses designed specifically for contractors.
EV Chargepoint Installer: Industry & Product: Packed with data and insight, giving you the knowledge to confidently advise both homeowners and businesses and position yourself as a trusted source of expertise.
On the Tools Installation & Maintenance: A practical, hands-on programme led by senior engineers in our custom-built training facility. You’ll cover site surveys, groundworks, equipment installation, software setup, testing, and develop skills in callouts, fault finding, and network maintenance.
DC Training Masterclass: With DC charging making up more than 70% of new installs in early 2025, this course covers installation and maintenance of our UltraCharge range, including the 40kW and 80kW models. You’ll build confidence in component replacement, fault diagnosis, and service delivery.
Courses can be taken individually or combined into a focused one-day company session. Backed by our UK manufacturing expertise, this training leads to Rolec Approved Installer status – clients often want that certification.
Loyalty Rewards
At Rolec, we know great work deserves great rewards. That’s why we’ve launched the EVO Loyalty Incentive. Get rewarded for every 15 EVO chargers installed and receive a free EVO worth £449. The more you install, the more EVOs you earn, it’s that easy.
The scheme has been created to celebrate the rapid success of the EVO while rewarding the contractors behind it. Projects will be automatically tracked via the RolecConnect app during configuration, ensuring a seamless process, and we send your free EVO straight to you.
